Use cases
Every EdgeNFC tag answers the same question — "is this the real, un-cloned original?" — in whatever context you ship it. Below are the four we have written full playbooks for, and the test for whether a fifth belongs on the list.
The same engine every time. The playbooks differ in what the tap unlocks and what the page says afterwards. The cryptography underneath does not change from one use case to the next.

Prove every garment is the real thing. Each tap is a fresh cryptographic proof a counterfeiter can't clone or reuse — and a resale market can check it years later.

There is an object, credential or place whose authenticity has value to somebody: a buyer, a door, a resale market, a regulator.
A printed code, a hologram or a static NFC tag can be photographed or cloned. The existing defence is "looks right", which is exactly what a good fake achieves.
Whoever verifies has one phone and no patience. A tap that opens a page is the whole interaction — no app to install, no account to make.
Genuine, or not. A fresh AES-CMAC and a counter that only moves forward give a verdict with no judgement call in it.
Straight answers
A tag proves the tag. It cannot see the contents. Pair it with tamper-evident packaging so that opening the package destroys or invalidates the tag — otherwise a verified tap says nothing about what is in the box.
Genuine items carry genuine tags, so they verify. What you get is visibility — where and how often items are being checked — not a block. That is an analytics problem, not an authentication one.

Verification needs an NFC-capable device to read the tag. There is no offline visual check, and no way to verify a tag from a photograph of it — that is the same property that makes it hard to forge.
